Cherry Health, Michigan healthcare center, wanted to consolidate their monitoring efforts and minimize system downtime. The Blue Medora True Visibility Suite for VMware vRealize Operations enabled a more proactive approach to monitoring their IT environment. Cherry Health chose to install the Blue Medora True Visibility Suite, instantly allowing all teams to pinpoint problems across their infrastructure and revealing utilization issues.
Cherry Health is the largest federally qualified health center in Michigan, with 20 locations and 800 employees. The non-profit organization provides services to people below the poverty line who lack insurance or health care, including Medicaid and Medicare patients.
With over 260 virtualized servers and 30 physical servers running healthcare and Microsoft applications, Cherry Health sought a more proactive approach to monitoring its environment. It had previously used a number of different management tools to manage the network, but each tool was specific to an individual application.
“If we proactively look at what’s going on in our environment on a regular basis, we can react to those problems before they become a real issue,” he said. “If we do this, then we’re ahead of the game.” After examining several solutions before making his decision, Brower ultimately chose Blue Medora because it provided a unified approach to managing Cherry Health’s environment. Blue Medora’s management packs made the same information available to teams across the organization, eliminating communication gaps and creating the ability to instantly pinpoint problems.

Blue Medora software made the same information available to teams across the organization, eliminating communication gaps and creating the ability to instantly pinpoint problems.
When the organization installed Blue Medora management packs and began looking at the network, it gave them new insights to a number of ways to increase efficiency. Not only did Blue Medora’s solutions give Cherry Health’s IT teams visibility into their entire infrastructure from a single console, unexpected utilization issues were also revealed. “It’s management software that gives everyone the ability to look at the same information. So the SAN person can see what’s happening with the database to see if it’s an issue just with the SAN, or if there is another issue within the SQL environment,” Brower said. “We’ve been looking for a complete approach to management of our environment that now Blue Medora provides us through agile development of their software,” he said.
“Using their solutions, we are able to drill down to see everything that’s happening at the time and find and respond to issues quickly.” Brower’s team quickly discovered their environment was over provisioned with some SQL servers. The discovery allowed them to reduce unnecessary processors and memory without affecting users. This resulted in significant savings in hardware and software costs. Cherry Health was also able to reduce its number of Microsoft licenses, saving thousands of dollars in the process.
Looking forward, Cherry Health’s relationship with Blue Medora looks very positive. “We’re very happy with them. We will keep on using them and growing with them,” Brower concluded.
Blue Medora helps improve uptime for Cherry Health by integrating the features of VMware’s vRealize Operations management software to easily monitor every layer of Cherry Health’s infrastructure within a consolidated dashboard view.
“Instead of database engineers, SAN managers and server and hardware admins looking at their prospective management software windows, Blue Medora combined all three with an ease-of-use solution. Now all teams can see into each others environments and more quickly solve the issue at hand.”
