At VMworld Barcelona 2018, VMware and IBM announced general availability of VMware vRealize Operations for Power. This new solution extends the power of Blue Medora’s True Visibility Suite for vRealize to IBM Power systems. Using Blue Medora technology and Management Packs, this vRealize Operations solution is now able to manage Power servers to create a single pane of glass for IBM customers’ data centers across both Power and x86 hardware.
This new solution demonstrates the strategic collaboration between Blue Medora, VMware and IBM by helping IT administrators run production operations across large, complex heterogeneous and hybrid environments with an open and extensible platform.
vRealize Operations for Power highlights the strength of Blue Medora technology that collects enriched metrics from a significant number of endpoints, providing dimensional data to VMware vRealize Operations, enabling customers to understand relationships, detect problems and troubleshoot issues across infrastructure, applications, public, private and hybrid cloud services.
VMware vRealize Operations for Power delivers the following benefits:
VMware vRealize Operations for Power includes 22 Blue Medora Management Packs and three agents. The core monitoring integrations focus on IBM PowerVC and Hardware Management Console (HMC). Additional technologies range from Pure Storage to F5 BIG-IP to DB2 and Linux (see list below).

This solution is tailored for IBM Power users. VMware vRealize Operations works with IBM’s Hardware Management Console (HMC) for the planning, deployment and monitoring of servers. Capabilities include the ability to create and modify logical partitions and dynamically adding and removing resources. System administrators can quickly check the overall health of their Power environment and identify potential problems.
Deploying the IBM HMC Management Pack will include the following capabilities:
Additionally, customers will be able to leverage a number of other management packs to monitor their broader infrastructure. This includes SAP HANA and Oracle Database. The combination of application and infrastructure management packs and the VMware vRealize Operations platform allows IBM Power users to monitor and troubleshoot their Power environments from host to VM, VM to application in a single tool.
VMware is offering two different packaging options: VMware vRealize Operations for Power (Medium) and VMware vRealize Operations (Small). Both include the same set of Blue Medora Management Packs, but the Medium bundle features vRealize Operations Advanced capabilities and the Small bundle features vRealize Operations Standard capabilities.
Blue Medora, working with VMware and IBM, is delivering a highly scalable and intuitive platform that helps prevent, troubleshoot and predict issues across private clouds, public clouds, infrastructure and applications with a single pane of glass. VMware vRealize Operations for Power is a comprehensive data center operations management platform designed to unify management across IT operations and hybrid cloud services. It is designed to deliver continuous performance optimization based on intent, efficient capacity and cost management, proactive planning and intelligent remediation.
