Blue Medora Agent for Remote SSL Certificates allows customers to optimize their existing IBM Tivoli Monitoring (ITM) infrastructure to provide the ability to remotely interrogate X.509 digital certificates throughout their enterprise and determine whether the certificates are in danger of expiring.   This results in less complexity, increased security, more uniform operations management, and a significant reduction in costs due to the elimination of redundant infrastructure and multiple platform-specific tools.

Features and Benefits

The Blue Medora Agent for Remote SSL Certificates monitors the life cycle of remote X.509 based digital certificates.  It connects to a SSL enabled TCP listener or a SMTP connection running over TLS and interrogates the certificate for information related to certificate validity based on the current date, the certificate's valid lifetime, subject, and other key data elements.

IT administrator can quickly and easily set up complex monitoring scenarios that, when combined with ITM-based Situations, Take-Actions, and Policies, can be used to implement automated workflows that provide alerts for scenarios such as when hosts are unreachable or when hosts are responding slowly.

With Blue Medora ITM Agent for Remote SSL Certificates, you gain the ability to remote evaluate the following attributes about an SSL or TLS/SMTP accessible X.509 digital certificate:

  • Issuer of the certificate
  • Expiration Date of certificate
  • Number of Days until certificate expiration
  • Whether the certificate has expired or not

Blue Medora Agent for Remote SSL Certificates has been designed from the ground up to look, feel, and operate like existing IBM-developed ITM agents in terms of ITM remote deployment, manageability via ITM command-line utilities, and installation and configuration.

When combined with the TCR Report Package for the Blue Medora Agent for Remote SSL Certificates administrators are able to quickly and easily generate high level reports detailing the overall status of their remotely deployed X.509 certificates  -- providing a pro-active understanding of when certificates will be expiring in the organization and causing outages.

Blue Medora Agent for Remote SSL Certificates:

  • Takes advantage of ITM's Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP) visualization capabilities to include best practices, expert advice, customized workspaces, and historical data gathering.
  • Integrates with Tivoli Data Warehouse (TDW) to provide ITDS-focused historical data collection and analysis.
  • Provides the ability to send application-specific events to Tivoli Enterprise Console (TEC) and Netcool OMNIbus for advanced correlation and automation.

  • Is validated by IBM as Ready for IBM Tivoli.

Requirement for pre-existing IBM Tivoli Monitoring agent

Blue Medora ITM Agents require a pre-existing IBM published agent be installed prior to Blue Medora ITM Agent installation.  The Blue Medora Agent for Remote SSL Certificates does not ship IBM specific Java™,  IBM GSkit, or the IBM Tivoli Monitoring runtime libraries. Installing an IBM-provided agent (normally an OS agent) installs these elements.
